Cory has Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Cory has been working for 18 months as a Physical Therapy Aide for SPORT PT in Carbondale, running patients through their corrective exercises and stretches as prescribed by the therapists. From that experience he has gotten to work and learn with everyone from post-surgical folks of all ages to high-end athletes with minor postural distortions.

Especially in our valley, folks expect to return to fitness and performance levels they had before injury-gotta keep getting after it! However, injury often causes atrophy and de-conditioning at a much faster rate than we are able to keep up with while being limited during recovery times. Sometimes for insurance reasons, people finish with physical therapy at a fitness and performance level that is not yet back to where they were before injury, and many are hoping to be at an even higher level of performance than when the injury occurred to prevent future injury. This can be a big struggle, as the compensations that are developed during recovery become apparent as people return to higher-level activity. For example, while an initial injury might have affected the right leg, weeks of weight-bearing mostly through the non-injured leg will lead to compensations and altered movement patterns once a patient is back to using both limbs together.
